The State of Michigan is a representative democracy, with a State Constitution modeled after the Federal Constitution. The Chief Executive Officer is the Governor, Jennifer Granholm, serving a four-year term, with balancing branches of government in the elected State Legislature and the Michigan Supreme Court serving the judiciary function.
